Good morning, everyone.
We will get started at 8:30.
Cameras on. Mics muted.
Today’s agenda:
1. Discuss midterm recommendations
2. Sentence combining- I emailed a sentence combining exercise for class Thursday and Friday.
3. Literary Terms- Thursday and Friday. Check your email.
4. I emailed you the poem, “Monster”. Crystal will talk with you about the poem. Crystal is a real expert in First Nations. She has a lot of information and wisdom to teach.
5. Test#2 – narrative paragraph
I will be away Thursday, and Friday. I have provincial meetings to discuss adult education. We work on ideas about how to preserve and grow adult education in BC.
There will be a substitute teacher, Crystal.
The class will have the same Zoom link.
Recommendations:
When you send me an email, I will send your midterm recommendation to you. Also, I send a copy of the recommendations to the office.
65% is the cutoff for early registration.
50% is the pass mark at the end of the course.
If you have 65% and over at midterm, that suggests that you are doing very well and can be successful in higher classes.
If you have less then 65% at midterm, that suggests that you are not doing as well yet. You may still pass in the end, but you have some work to do.
We don’t want students who are not ready for the next level to move up. It hurts the class. It is frustrating for the student and the teacher.
My advice is to stay at the level where you are doing just ok. Practice and get better before moving up to the next level.
When you move up, you can’t go back down.
A few people have sent me an email saying, “Can I get my midterm mark?”
Subject line of the email- no name, no class, no time
DELETE
I won’t keep asking for that information- name, class, time.
If you sent me an email and I didn’t write back, that’s probably why.

Here is the link for Summer registration. I just received it: https://moodle.vsb.bc.ca/summer.php

Volunteering
Two good places to start:
https://www.southvan.org/get-involved/volunteer/
https://govolunteer.ca/
I’m sure there are other opportunities that you can find.

I am assuming that we will be back in class in September. We have not heard any official announcement about this yet. The VSB will announce their decision soon, I hope.
I will see you next on Monday. I won’t have to be away any more days. My plan is to be here, teaching you, for the last three and half weeks.
We’ll have fun.
