·      Begin sentence fragment work

·      Sentence combining work - tomorrow

·      Discussion topic- What is your favourite food to make?

 

Tomorrow- begin process writing – teaching, how-to, step by step

 

 

About two full weeks left for instruction in the course. For the next two weeks, we will have classes as usual. We will do two or three more tests in the next two week.

We will also do a replacement test maybe in two weeks. It will be just like the replacement quiz. I will let you know when.

 

The last day is Wednesday, June 30

Final week

*Monday, June 28- review of what we covered in the course, review of the grammar, sentences, paragraph work

It is important to review work so that we will retain it and not forget it.

*Tuesday, June 29- final writing, final paragraph, Test#5or6

*Wednesday- Marks day- You can email me on June 30 for your final mark. Email me during class time, and I will email you back your final mark (%).

Sentence Fragments

 

A sentence fragment is a piece of a sentence. It is not a complete sentence.

e.g. We will go to the beach because it is a nice day. PERFECT COMPLEX SENTENCE

We will go to the beach. Because it is a nice day. sentence fragment

SOLUTIONS:

We will go to the beach because it is a nice day. COMPLEX

We will go to the beach. It is a nice day. SIMPLE

It is a nice day, so we will go to the beach. COMPOUND

 

In my marking notes, I will write ‘frag’ for a sentence fragment.

 

 

Fix all of the sentence fragments by adding or deleting words.

 

1.   Driving in the city.

I am driving in the city.

Driving in the city is forbidden unless you have a driver’s licence.

2.   During the class.

It is very important to start to iron out these details like punctuation, capitals, SV, etc.

I will put you all into chat rooms. You will be in the chat room with five other people. You can discuss the topic. This is not a test. This is a chance to relax and talk about food, maybe share some recipes.

I’ll bring you back in about 10 minutes.

Homework:

Think of a good recipe that you like to make. Break down 4-5 steps how to make the recipe. Write down the steps. We can share these tomorrow. Any food is ok- even a simple sandwich is ok. Doesn’t have to be fancy.
