Sentence fragments;


A sentence fragment is a piece of a sentence. It is not a complete sentence.

e.g. We will go to the beach because it is a nice day. PERFECT COMPLEX SENTENCE

We will go to the beach. Because it is a nice day. sentence fragment

SOLUTIONS:

We will go to the beach because it is a nice day. COMPLEX

We will go to the beach. It is a nice day. SIMPLE

It is a nice day, so we will go to the beach. COMPOUND


In my marking notes, I will write ‘frag’ for a sentence fragment.


Fix all of the sentence fragments by adding or deleting words.

They both sound good. The meaning is very simlar. The ‘ing’ sounds a little more active or lively.


Mozhgan has studied taekwondo for one year.

Mozhgan has been studying taekwondo for one year.

The next challenge is to avoid writing sentence fragments when you are writing your own sentences.

Homework: 

Think of a good recipe that you like to make. Break down 4-5 steps how to make the recipe. Write down the steps. We can share these on Monday. Any food is ok- even a simple sandwich is ok. Doesn’t have to be fancy.

We want to hear your recipe. Who wants to go first?
