Paragraphs in EF6- approximately 150-200 words, not too short, not

Most important part of a paragraph is the organization/structure.
it’s easy to write and write and write with no direction or structure.
We want to write short, dense, concise, well-organized paragraphs.
Structure of a paragraph
-Grabber/Hook (OPTIONAL)- attention-getter (7 ways)
-Topic sentence- gives the topic & the controlling idea **VERY
IMPORTANT**
-Supporting sentences (aim for 3-4 points)- details, evidence,
support, ‘meat’ of the paragraph
-Concluding sentence- restatement of the topic sentence
-possibly
restatement of the supporting points (more for an essay)

up
-a way to close up the paragraph

country? If so, why did you leave? How did you choose which country to
immigrate to? TS I chose to come to Canada for my new life because of three
reasons.
The
topic sentence is connected directly to the question.
The
grabber is a fluffy relaxed intro to the paragraph.

you have a positive saying about immigration in your language?
In ABC language, we say
that immigrating to a new country is like getting new blood in your veins. You
are reborn in the new place.
In
Chinese, we have a proverb that says, “If a tree is moved, it may die; if a man
person moves, he they will make a good life.” TS I wanted to come to
Canada to make a new life for me and my family.

Pssssssffffff!
In Brazil, we say “Those who do
not risk, do not have a snack.” That means that you have to take risks in life
in order to get benefits. TS I took a big risk coming to Canada. However, I
wanted to try to immigrate here for three reasons.
In Ethiopia, we say, “Instead of staying out of work, it’s better
to play with shit.” Instead of staying home in my old country with no work or
bright future, I decided to start a new life in a new country. Coming to Canada
was hard, but I’m glad I did.
These grabbers can make your paragraph really fun, or serious, or
academic, or silly, or whatever tone you are going for.
The grabber can set the tone.

7 grabbers to choice from -
Choose the one you feel fits best.
The grabber will be just one sentence, maybe two. It will be a
short intro to the paragraph. The examples that I gave were 20-40 words.
Use your best judgement. Does the grabber feel too short? Does your
grabber feel too long?
