Make each a complex sentence with an adverb clause. Use a different adverbial conjunction for each.

x.     The tall girl was smiling while she was looking at her boyfriend.

y.     The tall girl was smiling because she played a joke on her sister.

Who is ‘she’? Who is ‘her’?

Did somebody play a joke on the tall girl?

Did the tall girl play a joke on somebody else?

 

z.     The tall girl was smiling that/because I gave her a rose.

aa.                       Steve wash the dishes when his mother finished the cookies.

finished the cookies – ate all of the cookies

finished baking the bookies – clearer

 

bb.                      Steve washed the dishes before he cooked his dinner.
