SUMMER SCHOOL

Summer school will run July 5-August 6.

https://www.vsb.bc.ca/Student_Learning/Adult_Education/Documents/Summer%20Schedule%202021%20Final.pdf

When does registration begin for summer school? I don’t know. It will be soon.

I will give midterm recommendations to everyone before the first day of registration for summer. It will probably be very soon.

Midterm recommendations/ Interim recommendations will be based on the marks we have so far.

5 Quizzes

This week or early next week – Test#1 paragraph

The cutoff average for an early registration is 65%.

You can calculate your own average.

Quizzes are worth 3 points.

Tests are worth 6 points.

SCENARIO#1

Q1     1/3

Q2     3/3

Q3     2.5/3

Q4     2.3/3

Q5     1.7/3

T1      4/6

Add numerators and the denominators

x/y  x (numerator) y (denominator)

14.5/21 = .69  69%

Good for an early  midterm recommendation.

Pass mark for the course is 50%. On the last day of class, if you have 50%+, then you pass.

65% is only for the early midterm recommendation.

The reason is this: We don’t want to give early recommendations to students who are barely passing.

For the summer, I am scheduled to teach English Foundations 6.

If you take a break from SHEC for less than a year, you can normally just start where you left off.

If you take a break for a couples of years, then we will probably want to retest you.

We usually have to run split classes: 3/4  5/6  11/12 The reason is the provincial government does not fund Adult Education the same as K-12.

We get about 60% of the money that regular K-12 does.

Adult education runs on a shoestring.

on a shoestring – poor, not much money

We are the poor cousins of public education.

We do our best! I do my best! You do your best!

My dog does his best!

EF 1,2,3,4,5,6,7

7/10 are the same course.

English 10,11,12

Next week, I meeting about funding for Ad Ed. I will be away Tuesday, Thursday and Friday next week.

Adult Education is very important. I have teaching AE since 1993.

I have seen thousands of students finish high school and go to college, university, better jobs, better lives because of AE.

-education, career, life, confidence, self-respect, children (see you are and will be proud of you)

We will keep fighting to build AE.

In 1993, there were seven AE schools in Vancouver. Now there is only one.

We had 250 teachers. Now we have about 25.
