EF5/6 Paragraph structure

Review of paragraph structure

Structure- necessary parts

Topic sentence - comes first in the paragraph, usually the first sentence
- main idea of the paragraph
- addresses the topic/question
- tell the reader what to expect


Ex.
Do you like living in Vancouver?

Topic sentence: 
   I enjoy living in Vancouver for several/two/three reasons.
   I like living in Vancouver because of several reasons.


    Yes, there are many parks in Vancouver. XXX


SUPPORTING SENTENCES
give your reasons, evidence, proof, support

CONCLUDING SENTENCE - like a topic sentence, final sentence

EXAMPLE PARAGRAPH:
 Do you like living in Vancouver?

   I enjoy living in Vancouver for several reasons. First/First of all/Firstly/To begin with, the weather in Vancouver is mild and temperate. The summers are not extremely hot like my home country, but also the winters are not too harsh. Second, there is a lot of beautiful nature around the city. For example, we can see the Northshore Mountains from a lot of places in the city. Also, there are a lot of trees, forests, lakes and rivers in and around the city. Moreover, there is a lot of wildlife such as squirrels, chipmunks, and loons. Furthermore, you can see hummingbirds if you put out bird feeders. Clearly, Vancouver is a nice city to live in and be outdoors.
