What does slavery mean?
- no freedom
- belong to someone else
- buy and sell people
- own a person and their children
- treated like an animal, workhorse
slavery ended at the end of the American Civil War
-many White people were extremely racist against Black people, espcially in the South
- segregation - separation of people based on race, skin colour
- schools, restaurants, pools, water fountains
