2. Animal Farm Chapter 1

My schedule for November quarter (2nd quarter):

P1 8:30-10:45 Eng. 6/7/10 -split class

P2 11:00-1:15 Eng. 5/6 -split class

Did you register yet?

for example, I teach a 10/11 split right now.

I run the class like an 11, and I mark the 10s a little easier.

Some teachers run two completely separate classes, but I don’t like that. I run one class and mark harder or easier.

My 6/7/10 will be very much like this 7/10. – a lot of repetition

- sentences!!

- paragraphs

- different stories, poems

- different novel

Any old business that we haven’t finished yet?

Any questions?

Animal Farm, 1984 -extremely popular, best-sellers, millions of copies

sad – he didn’t live to see his work become the great successes that they have become

George Orwell is one of my intellectual heroes.

I often wonder what he would think about our world today. In many ways he predicted the rise of authoritarian governments  and authoritarians leaders around the world.

You should read him.

Animal Farm, then 1984 (longer and higher level of diffulty)

Tests: Test on Ch 1-3, Test on Ch 4-6, Final test (essay)

10 chapters – one chapter per day for the next 2-3 weeks

HW Read Ch 1, make notes
