Emily Dickinson (1830–86)

Forbidden fruit a flavor has

  That lawful orchards mocks;

How luscious lies the pea within

  The pod that Duty locks!

foreshadowing – a clue or a suggestion about what will happen later in a story, unlucky house, bad spirits, death

bad luck in different cultures – 13, 4, black cat cross your path, broken mirror- 7 years bad luck, spill salt, broken plate, change a calendar before the month is over, walking under a ladder, giving a clock as a gift, daisy, giving a knife as a gift, share a pear, Chinese New Year – don’t cut your hair, sweep the floor, wash your hair, wash your hair before an exam, crows, full moon, light three cigarettes from one match, open an umbrella indoors, passing open scissors, cutting your nails at night

- confirmation bias – when you are looking for something, you will find it
