https://www.vsb.bc.ca/Student_Learning/Adult_Education/Documents/sbfile/200930/Nov%202020%20Final%20Schedule_1.pdf

Registration begins tomorrow, Wednesday, October 7.

You will be getting an email later today about registration and how classes will be run.

You should register as soon as you can. Classes fill up.

I do not know what I will be teaching in November. I have not been told yet. When I find out, I will tell you. Also, I will post it on my blog.

English 10/11 – few options for next term

Stay in English 10 or 11.

Move up to English 11 or 12

Based on your marks.

The pass mark in BC is 50%.

My opinion: 50% is far too low to move one.

65% is a minimum

Students pass with 50+%- go to the next level – really struggle

English 10 – two courses put together (Literary Studies 10 + Composition 10)

English 11 – two courses CHOOSE ONE (Literary Studies 11 + Composition 11)

We have a very small school. No matter which you choose, you will get all of the curriculum- sentences, grammar, paragraphs, short stories, novel, etc)

I won’t teach English Foundations 7, Composition 10, Literary Studies 10, Literary Studies 11, and Compositions 11 all as separate classes. Impossible, especially online.

Eng10 – Eng11- Eng12

Some students like the work and want to repeat a course. That’s Ok with me. I wouldn’t want you to get bored.

Today - Midterm reports- snapshot of how you are doing so far.

Quizzes, tests- average of those marks

Via email. You email me if you want a midterm average. I will email you back.

If your mark is above 65%, you should register for the next level. If you want to repeat, that’s ok. 1-2 repeats is usually ok.

If your mark is below 65%, you should be very cautious of registering for the next level. You may not be ready.

If your mark is below 50%, you should repeat and work on your skills.

Midterm – halfway

Today is our halfway point in the course.

Marks can go up. Marks can go down.

I cannot predict the future. Your future marks depend on tests that we have nor have not written yet.

e.g. 80% midterm – probably ok.

60% midterm – not strong

40% midterm – a lot of work to do to bring that mark up

We will end now. Please email me and I will email back your Midterm averages.
