3. HW Read JP Ch7, make notes

Tomorrow: Paragraph on Jade Peony with quoted material

Registration begins today.

Email from the school.

November classes will be online, same as September.

I don’t know what I’m teaching yet. I will let you know as soon as I know.

CHOICE:

English 12 – poetry, short stories, novel, noin-fiction

English First Peoples 12 - poetry, short stories, novel, noin-fiction –

focused on stories and issues and history of Indigenous People- ways of knowing, culture, history, traditions

- in Canada and BC, big push to increase education about First Nations

- class is example of that change in curriculum

English FP 12 – same credit as Eng 12, good for college, university

If I was a high school student now, I would take English First Peoples 12

Your decision.

The Jade Peony is a novel for English speaker, not an easy ESL book

- if you can read this and understand it, that’s a big accomplishment

My experience: Reading is great pleasure. It brings a lot of enjoyment to my life. Some people are readers. Are you a reader?

Reading is the most entertainment for my time and energy put in.

30m reading, much more fun than 30m of TV

Watching TV is ok for listening, but it is passive, not active, you are not doing anything

- best listening practice – has to be social

speaking and listening – listening to the news, talking about it with others

- back and forth of conversation – very challenging and the #1 way to get better

MY FREE ADVICE #12: If you want to be good at English, get an English-speaking boyfriend or girlfriend. You will be fluent in six months.
