ROUGH COPY
Powerful people are often used to getting what they want, and they can get upset when they don’t. In the story “Roses Sing on New Snow”, the governor got angry because of three reasons. First of all, he was upset when he realized that the father and brothers had lied to him about who had cooked the dish. He was looking for the truth about who the chef was, and he did not appreciate being tricked by them. Second, he didn’t like that a woman was challenging him so directly. In his traditional country, women were not at the same social level as men, so he did not expect her to be so bold. Finally, he was angry that Maylin wouldn’t give him the recipe for Roses Sing in New Snow. She explained why he wouldn’t be able to cook the dish the same as her; nevertheless, he still wanted the recipe. From the reasons above, it is clear why the governor felt angry.
