An essay explains more and is divided into paragraphs.

Five paragraphs is the basic model. You can use 3, 4 or 6 if you want.

With a paragraph, it is sometimes possible to get away without making a good plan before you write. However, with the complexity an essay, it is really imperative (very necessary) to make a plan before we begin to write.

WRITING PROCESS:

PLAN- !!

THEN WRITE.

IMPORTANT – AN ESSAY HAS 3 SECTIONS

Intro paragraph

Body paragraph(s)

Concluding paragraph

TOPIC:

Why do you live in Vancouver?

PLAN (~10m)

1. Read and understand the question. Read the question five times. Read every word. Make sure you understand what the question is asking you to write about.

e.g. I live in Canada for three reasons. Vancouver

I left my home country for three reasons. off-topic

2. Brainstorm reasons- 3 reasons

1.work opportunities

2.close to mountains and ocean

3.opportunities for my kids

3. Put in order

WRITE

4. Write a rough draft

First, Vancouver offers good job opportunities. Second, the city is close to beautiful mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Third, Vancouver has many opportunities for my kids to take advantage of.

Vancouver is a big thriving city, so there are lots of jobs available.
