The government had several excuses for locking up the protagonist, the Wise Woman. First, they claimed that she had money which could not be accounted for. In fact, after she had been arrested, the police found that she had “ten barrels of gold” hidden away. Secondly, the government was not happy that the Wise Woman had so much power in the community. She was able to help the people much more than the government could. This made the government people nervous. Finally, -magic-

A whole different way of looking at education for some people.

** Copying

A whole bunch of students copied phrases and sentences from the story and copied that into their paragraphs.

no “ “

Just plagiarized

0/6 – zero, fail

Copying is not what we are doing. Hopefully, you will stop doing that. Every time you copy and paste or plagiarize from a story, you will get a 0, and you will fail.

Copying from a story is not the path to any success.

There are many reasons why she was put in jail. Some believe it was because she was a witch, others believe it was because of her money, for when they arrested her they found ten barrels of gold.

The Wise Woman could do amazing things. She was often seen flying through the air above the rooftops with bright sparks coming out of her eyes.

All copied, no “ “, just plagiarized.

0/6

Do you think that a teacher is asking you to copy words and sentences from a story? It isn’t.

Follow the process: Prewriting, then Writing

In Eng 10, 11, 12, plagiarism has serious repercussion. If you copy from the story, or especially the internet answers that you find, you will get a 0, fail the class, and possible not be allowed to continue.

All plagiarized from the internet:

Roses Sing on New Snow is the story of a young woman, Maylin, who prepares delicious meals in her father’s restaurant in the New World for the “lonely and cold and bone-tired” diners. Unfortunately, she does not receive the recognition she deserves since her greedy father and lazy brothers pretend as though they are the ones cooking. When an important dignitary arrives from China wanting to sample food prepared in the New World, Maylin creates a wonderful new dish, Roses Sing on New Snow, for this special occasion. Of course, her father and brothers take credit for the dish when it is loved by the dignitary. When the dignitary wants the recipe, her father and brothers fail miserably at trying to cook the special recipe and are forced to ask Maylin for help. Maylin, side-by-side with the dignitary, teaches him how to prepare the dish. When Maylin’s is by far the better tasting of the two, she carefully explains that even though he has the same ingredients it is her gift for cooking that brings greatness to the dish!

While Maylin does the cooking for her family's Chinatown restaurant, her greedy father and two fat brothers take all the credit. When her specially prepared dish, ``Roses Sing on New Snow,'' is served to the visiting governor of South China, he asks the brothers to show him how it was made. They fail miserably; and even when Maylin is summoned and the governor works beside her in order to learn her secrets, the food he prepares is inferior to hers. ``If you and I sat down with paper and brush and black ink, could we bring forth identical paintings?'' Maylin asks, winning a reputation for wisdom as well as for cooking.

Passed in plagiarized work for me to mark, assuming that I would be too dumb to figure it out.

Plagiarized – 0/6, write a letter to the principal, trust is broken

Copying and plagiarizing is not the path to success.

The path to success is the Writing Process and learning how to quote

short amounts of borrowed material from a text.

You feel a little better about paragraphs. Huge success!

You feel a bit more confident about writing. Major step in only two months.
