Wednesday, May 1st May Day- International Worker’s Day

This is a day to commemorate labour and workers.

commemorate- memor  remember, memorize, memory

co- together- coworker, colleagues, colearners-students

co + mmemorate- remember together

We rememeber worker actions, like strikes, protest

People protest against the government.

In Kazakhstan, May 1st is called Friendship Day.

In Kurdistan, May 1st is Labour Day.

Education is power!

Language is power!

 

In Canada, Labour Day (first Monday in September) is a holiday. We also remember workers and think about workers’ rights.

·      Talk about earthquake drill tomorrow

Vancouver in a high-risk zone for earthquakes.

drill- practice evacuation, leaving the building

Tomorrow we will do an earthquake drill.

1.Hide under the table for 60 seconds.

2.Evacuate the building using the south door.

3.Meet in front of the school.

4. I will check and make sure everybody is together.

 

Many schools is BC are being earthquake-proofed. Older schools are being rebuilt to modern standards.

New building are built to withstand earthquakes.

Old buildings were not built to modern standards.
