Quiz- Compound Sentences

 

The quiz yesterday was a good first quiz. We found some things that we are good at, and more importantly, we found some things that we can improve upon.

 

Write a compound sentence for each:

         e.g. cat but

The cat is asleep, but the dog is awake.

Compound sentence:

 

Subject and verb +, SOBA  ;  subject and verb.

 

1. memory          but

memory (noun)

remember (verb)

I have a good memory of living in Japan, but I don’t want to live there again.

She has a bad memory from her childhood, but it doesn’t bother her very much.

                          

2. machine          at the same time

Sarah is using the washing machine; at the same time, her husband is using the dishwasher.

at the same time = meanwhile

I am teaching a class; meanwhile, my son is playing with the dog.

 

3. corner             then

Stand on the corner; then you will see me.

‘then’ special, no comma, small detail

Why? I don’t know. No reason.

 

4. buy                 also

Michell will buy some new shoes; also, she will return a hat.

 

5. understand      so

Bob understands what the teacher is saying, so he will do well in the class.

 

6. childish          however

My boyfriend is very childish; however, he is rich, so I will keep him.

1.    I had a good memory of living in Toronto, but I had to go back to Vancouver.                                                                                                    

14.                       I will buy formula powder for my baby; also, I need a box of diapers.

15.                       My memory is becoming weak , but I still study hard.

16.                       I didn't understand this sentence, so could you repeat it again?
