EF5/6 Uses for participles

present perfect

participle

She has lived in Vancouver.
She has dug a 10cm by 10cm hole to plant a hydrangea.

I forgot to buy the milk.
I have forgotten to buy the milk.


ACTIVE and PASSIVE VOICE

voice - active, passive

active is most common
subject does the verb
Joe moved the chair. strong, good style

passive voice- weaker, not strong sounding
The chair was moved by Joe.

The meeting was chaired by Mr Chen. PASSIVE
Mr. Chen chaired the meeting.

chair (verb) - leader, organizer, controls

chairman chairperson chair
The chair called the meeting to order.

chairman - gendered language
waiter/waitress - server
steward/stewardess - flight attendant
