EF3/4 Simple, compound, and complex sentences

Ex. 1 
1. Because it is raining...
Maria is carrying her umbrella because it is raining. COMPLEX - adverb clause
Because it is raining, S V.
Because it is raining, I must drive carefully.

It is raining. SIMPLE

Because it is raining
It is raining, but we can still go out. COMPOUND

Change them to simple, compound or complex. Your choice.

2. Although John lives close to school...
John lives close to school, but he still takes his car. COMPOUND

3. If you need my help...
COMPLEX
If you need my help, please ask me.
If you need my help, I am available.
Why don't you ask me if you need my help.

COMPOUND
If you need my help, so I will help you. XXX
If You need my help, so I will help you.
'if' OR 'so'  NOT TOGETHER

SIMPLE
If you need my help.
You need my help.

You should be able to write all three styles: simple, compound, complex.

4. While my brother is very tall, 
COMPLEX
While my brother is very tall, my sister is short.
'while' can be used for a comparison
Canada is very cold while Mexico is hot.
Joe likes math while Fred likes English.
'while' - opposite
While the puppy is white, the kitten is black.

'while' can also be used for time, at the same time
Mary was watching 'Game of Thrones' while her husband was folding laundry.

I like spicy food while my son does not. COMPARING
I watched while my son played soccer. TIME

5. When Olivia passed the nursing examination...
When Olivia passed the nursing examination, she started to look for a job. COMPLEX
When Olivia passed the nursing examination; after, she found a good job in the hospital. COMPOUND
Olivia passed the nursing examination, so she got a good job in the hospital. COMPOUND
Olivia passed the nursing examination. SIMPLE
When While/ Although/ Even though/ Though Olivia passed the nursing examination, Lara didn't pass. COMPLEX

6. After I cleaned the apartment, I was really tired.
COMPLEX
I cleaned the apartment, and I went shopping.
COMPOUND
I cleaned the apartment. SIMPLE

7. While Mary is always on time, her sister Josie is always late/ not on time/ delayed/ tardy. COMPLEX

8. Although she studied all night for the examination, Rosa didn't pass.
Although she studied all night for the examination, Rosa failed it/ flunked it/ bombed it.
She aced the exam. She got a great mark: 99%.

9. While Nancy is an excellent worker, Mario is lazy. 'while' means opposite
While Nancy is an excellent worker, Mario is terrible/ disorganized/ useless/ incompetent.

10. Although Paul never has any money,
Although Paul never has any money, his brother is rich. COMPLEX
Paul never has any money, but his brother is rich.
Paul never has any money, but he never asks his mother for any.
COMPOUND

Paul never has any money. SIMPLE
