Sentence Combining Sheet 2

Sentence combining –  taking several short sentences, condense them into one dense but concise sentence

dense but concise – dense – a lot of meaning

-concise – as short as possible

balance of competing impulses-

dense, but not too dense

short, but not too short

Big challenge – having a feel for style

How does the sentence feel? Does it feel too long? Does it feel too short? Does it feel too heavy withe information? Does it feel insubstantial?

These are always the question in my mind.

-beyond just grammar- this is about style and feel

The next steps for many of us, after we have mastered the grammar.
