Joining two simple sentences together

Verb tense- can mix tenses

Xioaying lives in Canada, but she grew up in Malasia.

2 SIMPLES Jean speaks French. Maria speaks French, too.

1 COMPOUND Jean speaks French, and Maria speaks French, too.

If you want the ideas in your simple sentences to be connected, then use a compound sentence. You have choice.

 

USAGE

Mei and Sarah were talking with/to each other.

Mei and Sarah help each other with childcare.

Mei and Sarah were hiking together.

Sarah and I know each other.

We go to school together.

They sing together.

 

MORE COMPLEX

The kids play together.

We have lunch with each other. -sound very close friendship

I worked in/at the largest legal firm in Canada, so I have lots of experience.

Sarah sings very well, but she is too shy to sing in front of people.

I borrowed a book from the library, and now I can’t find it.

He borrowed money from his uncle, but then he moved to another country.

Sarah loaned her best friend some nice jewelry, so her friend was very appreciative.

9. incredible  The new iphone 14 is incredible, so I bought one.

10. jealous

My sister is always jealous of me, so she gives me the cold shoulder.

IDIOM the cold shoulder- ignore

The little girl was jealous of her friend’s new doll, but she got over it.

I don’t like jealous people, but there are many jealous people.

My colleague was jealous of me, but I tried to be kind to her.
