CLASS BLOG: haleyshec.blogspot.com
You do not have to make notes as we go although making notes
during class is an excellent way to improve retention.
I will call attendance.
I would like to call you by your first name if you don’t
mind.
If you have a English name, just let me know, and I will try
to remember. I can’t change your name in the computer, so I just have to try to
remember.
*** Covid protocols: masks, clean hands***
Covid is making a comeback.
problem with masks – can’t see our faces, lose a lot of
non-verbal communication- facial expressions, lip reading
This is why talking on the telephone is harder than talking
face to face.
cacophony- loud confused noise, like everybody talking at the
same time
like (casual) for example
Regularly - spray your hands, spray your desk
Our closest door for coming in and out of our classroom is
the south door.
NEWS- north east south west- Never eat sour weiners.
Are you vaccinated? If not, get vaccinated. They are safe
and effective.
Vaccinations are safe.
****
Split class- two or more classes put together
EF4, EF5- These classes are at similar levels, so it is a
good split class.
EF4, EF5 students will learn the same material. I will mark
the EF5 students a little harder than the EF4 students.
EF – English Foundations
There are self-paced alternatives if you would prefer to
learn on your own. Many students prefer a classroom with a teacher.
self-paced classes – Room 203
In my opinion, a structured class with a teacher is far
superior to a self-paced class, especailly for learning a language.
- for self-paced students – almost 90% do not finish the
course
-highly motivated, driven
motivated(a) motivation(n) motive(n)- reason
She is motivated to learn how to drive a car.
She has a really good reason that comes from inside.
internal motivation
Are you motivated to learn more English?
This is a relaxed class. We will do a lot of good work, but
I try not to be too serious.
MOTTO: Have fun. Learn a lot.
motto- slogan
e.g. NIKE- Just do it!
It is very important to enjoy what you are doing.
MY FREE ADVICE: You have to find a way to enjoy whatever you
are doing. You’ll feel better, and you will do better work.
eagerness- enthusiasm(n), enthusiastic(adj)
She has/feels a lot of enthusiasm for travel.
He has enthusiasm for/about soccer.
Mei is enthusiastic about her new job downtown.
He is enthusiastic about soccer.
ADJ-emotion about NOUN
He is happy about his test result.
She is excited about her upcoming birthday.
Jeff is nervous about his job interview later today.
