We have only three weeks left.

Review of verb tenses

Note: I will email a document about verb tenses.

 

12 verb tenses- we don’t use them all

Focus on 7 of them. The other five we don’t use very much.

 

SIMPLE PRESENT- habitual action, usual, everyday, facts

Clara drinks tea. habitual, habit, everyday, all the time

She cooks for her family everyday.

She works at Superstore.

Dave goes to school by bus.

Wenni studies English everyday.

They are taxi drivers.

Mohamad runs a business.

Two plus three is five.

SIMPLE PAST- one event in the past, finished, over

Joe watched TV last night.

Mei went to school yesterday.

Last week, I decided to go to the picnic. I am going to go to the picnic tomorrow. I will go to the picnic tomorrow.

I will go to the picnic tomorrow. sounds less natural

 

 

will / am going to – I wish I could teach the difference clearly. I will do some more research.

 

 

Cheryl will go to Japan next year.

Cheryl is going to go to Japan next year. more natural sounding

 

is going to = gonna (very casual speaking, not for writing)

 

 

 

lie- do it yourself

lay- place something down

The mom lay the baby down. She lied down for a nap, too.

 

lie- say something that is not true

He lied to me.(v)  He told me a lie. (n)

I lied to you. I told you a lie.
