Good morning, everyone.

We will get started at 11:00.

Monday is a holiday: Thanksgiving, October 11

 

I have a meeting tomorrow about Adult Education for the whole province.

There will be another teacher here.

 

Wednesday – Hump Day! middle of the week heading for the weekend

 

 

Change to the class from now on. We will do more talking/speaking exercises daily.

 

Today’s agenda:

·      Continue descriptive writing- paragraphs from homework

Read the paragraphs aloud. We will listen and enjoy.

 

·      Begin noun clauses

Thursday

·      Review simple and compound sentences

This is a review of the sentence writing work we were doing up to last week.

·      Descriptive writing.

1.    Spread the pictures out on a table.

2.    Each student chooses one.

3.    Each students takes 20 minutes to write some descriptive language that describes the picture or some part of the picture.

4.    Students spread the pictures back out on a table.

5.    Students gather around.

Each student reads what they wrote. The other students and listen. NOTE: This is not a race to be first. The students should stay silent if they have figured  which picture is being described.

Ask what the key words were that revealed the identity of the picture being described.

6.    Students may wish to discuss or note new vocabulary from the others’ descriptions.

Descriptive wriiting – Describe your grandmother’s/mother’s face.

Read them out loud. We’ll listen and enjoy.

Advice for speaking to a group:

1.    Slow down. Speak slower than usual.

2.    Speak up! Speak louder than usual.

3.    Eye contact. Look around.
