Sentence types for EF 34

Three kinds of sentences that we will learn.

SIMPLE SENTENCES- HOMEWORK

COMPOUND so or but and

COMPLEX- because when if

 

I will give an overview today.

I will teach them in detail in the next few weeks.

 

SIMPLE SENTENCE- most basic

subject and verb  S+V

subject – person, place, thing, usually it is a noun or pronoun

verb- action word

The dog is white.

Butter loves people.

SV

Examples:

She is beautiful.

I love dogs.

She has an old car.

Jun wants to buy some milk.

He is strong.

Mei needs some advice.

 

REMEMBER – capital letter and a period, fullstop

Simple Sentence Exercises

 

Write a simple sentence using the vocabulary in each exercise. Try a variety of simple sentence types.

Remember: SV  SSV  SVV  SSSV  SVVV  SSVV  Imperative  Interrogative

is sleeping verb- present progressive

I fell asleep at 11 o’clock.

 

The cat is sleeping at the top of the cat tree.

present progressive- happening right now  is+sleeping

The cat sleeps on top of the cat tree.

simple present= always, usually sleeps
