condition - if, even though( A BIT HARDER)

 

Three most important words for adverb clauses are: because   if   when

 

STRUCTURE

SV because SV.

SV if SV.

SV when SV.

 

because- the reason why

Examples:

Joe was absent yesterday because SV.

Joe was absent yesterday because there were no busses.

 

You are wearing a hat because SV.

You are wearing a hat because the weather is cold.

You are wearing a hat because it is cold.

You are wearing a hat because it’s cold. contraction- ‘ apostrophe

 

ALTERNATIVE: Because it’s cold, you are wearing a hat. Teach in EF4/5

On Friday, I was absent because I had an appointment.

I can’t go on holiday because I don’t have enough money.

I am going to buy a dress because I am going to a party tomorrow.

I missed my friend’s party because I was sick.

I learned English because I want to stay in this country.

EF23 I took an English class because I want to learn English.

EF45 Because I want to learn English, I took an English class.

I am hungry because I didn’t have breakfast.

I learned driving because I don’t want to take the bus anymore.

SLANG hungry+angry= hangry(adj)- in a bad mood because you have not eaten.

I went to Italian festival because it was around the corner from my house.

 

PRACTICE: Let’s write some sentences with ‘because’ from our own imagination. Work together if you wish.

 

EXAMPLES:

She got a new bike because she is very happy. BACKWARDS

She is very happy because she got a new bike. Good!

 

DIFFERENT MEANINGS:

A.My father is happy because he gave me some money.

B.My father gave me some money because he is happy.

 

You were happy because you could help your friend in a difficult situation.

SAYING- It is better to give than to receive.
