EF12 Class 18 simple future tense

“Family Relationships”

Read over the vocabulary for “Male Relatives”, “Female Relatives”, “Either Gender”, “Marital Stasuses”, and “Additional Vocabulary”

“Male Relatives”

*father- husband of your mother, dad, papa,

“My father is my brother’s father.”

“My father is my mother’s husband.”

*grandfather

“My grandfather is my father’s or mother’s father.”

-         maternal grandfather- mother’s father

-         paternal grandfather- father’s father

“I never met my paternal grandfather. He died before I was born.”

“I lived with my paternal grandparents when I was young.”

“I knew only my two grandmothers.”

My mother’s mother (maternal grandmother) died when I was two years old.”

“My grandfather is 90 years old. He is still alive. He is healthy. He has good health.”

SIMPLE SENTENCES- simple present tense

 

cousins- your uncle’s and aunt’s children

 

*Your husband’s or wife’s father is your father-in-law.”

 

*stepson- “Your stepson is your spouse’s son from another relationship.” e.g. ex-wife

*spouse- your husband or wife, your partner, your significant other

 

*half-brother- “You share a mother or a father, but not both.”

NOT A NICE WORD: half-blood

 

*foster son  “You raise a son from another family in your family until they are an adult.”

“My son-in-law’s mother and father are my in-laws.”

“I like hanging out with my in-laws. We have a good relationship.”

 

*godson- religious base, Catholics

SIMPLE VERB TENSES

 

-simple present – usually, always, daily

He cleans his kitchen every Saturday morning.

She lives in Kuwait.

 

-simple past- one time in the past

He cleaned his kitchen last Saturday morning.

She lived in a small apartment.

-simple future- one event in the future

-         timeline

-         five minutes in the future, ten years in the future

e.g. Doris will go to Metrotown in five minutes.

Doris will go to Metrotown at six o’clock.

Doris will go to Metrotown on Saturday morning.

Doris will go to Metrotown next week.

Doug will move to Japan tomorrow.

Doug will move to Japan when he is retired.

TWO WAYS TO MAKE SIMPLE FUTURE

-         “will” – main one, most useful way

-         “be going to”

 

e.g.

“Alex will go to the doctor.”

Alex is going to go to the doctor.

 

“It will rain this afternoon.”

“It is going to rain this afternoon.”

 

“I will go to a bar to drink beer. I am going to go to a bar to drink beer.”

 

gonna- casual talking, not for school writing

going to- for school writing

 

“We will write a paragraph tomorrow.”

“We are going to write a paragraph tomorrow.

“My husband and I will hang out downtown tomorrow night.”

“We are going to go window shopping.”

“I will go shopping at the Canada Goose store.”

“I will study English to improve my life in Canada.”

 

GRAMMAR OF SIMPLE FUTURE VERB TENSE

Shira will buy new shoes the day after tomorrow.

**IMPORTANT** The simple future tense verb does not change.

Shira will buy new shoes.

We will buy new shoes.

I will buy new shoes.

You will buy new shoes.

Your aunt will buy new shoes.

He will buy new shoes.

 

I will have some chocolate after dinner.

She will have some chocolate after dinner.

The kids will have some chocolate after dinner.

Her sister will have some chocolate after dinner.
