Choose one holiday/celebration day from your home country.
You can start to organize and write a paragraph about it. Tomorrow we will finish writing the paragraphs. Then we will read them out loud.

Features of a Good Topic Sentence
- Opens a door for the reader to walk through. An invitation to keep reading.
- Not a general fact.
- Don’t announce the topic.
e.g. “In this paragrpah, I will tell you about Sri Lankan New Year’s.”
ALTERNTIVE ”Sri Lankan New Year’s is a wonderful mix of ceremony, food, and celebration.”
- Specific. Focus the topic down with your controlling idea.
- Deals with one idea
HOMEWORK
Choose a few (3-4) of these topics. Write a topic sentence for each. No need to write a full paragraph. Be clear and specific. Make them interesting.
