We will get started at 9:15.

 

Today’s class plan:

·      Return Paragraph 1, Version 2

·      Continue with “100 Most Used Verbs in English”

·      Continue “Simple sentences EF1, EF2”

Test#1 - Paragraph

We wrote Test#1 on Friday. I marked it and gave it back yesterday.

Yesterday, we rewrote Test#1. I marked it again.

“My Favourite Food”

-         Orient the paper.

-         Write in pen.

-         One block of writing. The sentences follow each other.

-         Full name and class (EF1, EF2, SL1/2) in top right corner.

 

**Very important: good sentences!

 

We are focussing on simple sentences this week.

 

We will write another paragraph Thursday or Friday.

Yes, he can. No, he can’t.  can’t = can not = cannot

Can I ask you something?

Can I ask you a personal question?

Students ask teachers many questions.

77. add – plus, +,

My son adds/added up all of his cash.

add=count

add = add up

Practicing your English every day adds up. You will make a lot of progress.

 

100. remain – stay

You moved to Canada. Your sister remained in Peru. simple past tense

 

One word can have several meanings.

You can know the meaning by the usage: verb, noun, adjective, adverb, etc. You have to listen to the full sentence. You will know the meaning by the context.

context- the way the word is being used

 

taking a picture on your smartphone- portrait or landscape

 

TRUTH: Practice makes perfect permanent!

Whatever you practice is what you will do.

 

 

 

“Simple Present Tense”

Dialogue between a reporter and a man named Nate.

dialogue- conversation/talking between two people, two people talk with each other, back and forth

reporter- news reporter, interviewer

 

unusual- not normal, strange

for a living- job

I teach for a living. She sells shoes for a living.

 

clown- in a circus, colourful clothes, red nose, paint their face, wig

 

salary – your pay, your money that you earn from a job

earn money- make money

He earned her trust. She trusts him now.

 

circus- a performance inside a big tent with animals, jugglers, acrobats, tightrope walkers, clowns, fire breathers, etc

engineer- a person who designs or builds systems e.g computer system, water system

 

She is a domestic engineer. (a homemaker)

You can go to Vancouver Giants hockey game for much cheaper than a Vancouver Canucks game. It is good hockey.

 

Tomorrow, we will start to learn about simple past tense verbs.
