·      Review verb tenses. Test tomorrow on verb tenses- last test

Practice writing sentences with the four verb tenses. This will help is get ready for the test tomorrow.

·      Begin adverbs of frequency/time

Review our four verb tenses from this term:

Tomorrow – test on the four verb tenses

 

1.    SIMPLE PRESENT- always, habit, usually, every day

2.    SIMPLE PAST- one event in the past, finished, over

3.    SIMPLE FUTURE- one event in the future, yet to happen

‘will’ ‘am going to’

4.    PRESENT PROGRESSIVE- happening right now, nowadays

AUX +‘ing’ 

 

 

Example test- 12 sentences

Write a sentence using the verb and verb tense for each.

1.    simple present             buy

She always buys coffee at JJ Bean in the morning.

ADJECTIVE- descriptive word, describes a noun

 

ADVERB – describes a verb

often ends in ‘ly’

TURN ADJECTIVES INTO ADVERBS

Examples:

He goes shopping.

How often does he go shopping?

He sometimes/always/never goes shopping.

She usually/often/always eats breakfast.

 

Her brother does his homework.

How often does he do his homework?

He usually/almost always/almost never does his homework.

 

Juan visits his home country.

How often does he visit his home country?

Juan seldom/rarely/often/NEW WORD regularly visits his home country.

Juan sometimes visits his home country.

 

HIGHER LEVEL: We can put adverbs in different places in a sentence.

Juan sometimes visits his home country. EASIEST WAY

Juan visits his home country sometimes.

Sometimes Juan visits his home country.

 

HIGHER LEVEL VOCAB – sporadically (sometimes), frequently (often)

 

SPANISH – change ‘mente’ to ‘ly’ probably will work

 

You can put adverbs in different places in the sentence.

I go to the gym.  sometimes

I sometimes go to the gym. 

Sometimes, I go to the gym.

I go to the gym sometimes. 

 

She often goes shopping downtown.

She goes shopping downtown often.

Often, she goes shopping downtown.

 

rarely- 10%

Don rarely calls his brother.

Don calls his brother very rarely.

Rarely, Don calls his brother.

 

 

I rarely never get home to Iran.

I often get home to see my family in China.

You very seldom get home.

 

 

I very very rarely visit Cape Breton Island.

I often miss it often.

miss it – feel homesick

 

She often feels homesick. She wants to go visit her country, Cambodia.

 

We like would to get home to Iran. However, we never do because we are always are fighting in conflict with the government.
