IDIOM stressed out- feeling a lot of stress and worry

Parts of Speech- different kinds of words in English (or any language)

 

1.    Nouns- person, place, thing, idea(abstract, not physical)

person- scientist, barber, hairstylist, princess, composer, adult, mother, boy, girl, doctor, husband, server, warehouse worker

 

place- Vancouver, China, Iran, home, school, hospital, Kabul Afghanistan, India, America , the US, the States,

 

proper nouns, capitalized- Vancouver, Phu Quoc, China, Iran, Joanne, Fakir, Ahmed, South Hill Education Centre, Langara College, Univerity of British Columbia, SFU, Starbucks, McDonald’s, Tim Horton’s, Cactus Club, Five Guys, Yaas, Friday, Monday, Wednesday, July, August, September, QE Park, Stanley Park, Central Park,Toyota, Hyundai, Mazerati, two Teslas, Sony, iPhone

2.    verbs -action words

VERB TENSES- Can be big trouble!

simple verb tenses- past present future

past liked  Laura liked soccer.

present like(s) Laura likes soccer.

future will like Laura will like soccer. STRANGE

 

to go

past We went for a walk last night.

present He walks to school every day.

future I will walk home after work.

 

We will start working on verb tenses tomorrow.

 

3.    adjective- descriptive word

-opinion – beautiful, ugly, handsome, expensive, cheap

-size- huge, tiny, medium, large, short, gigantic, miniscule

-age- young, ancient, two-year-old, senior, brand new

She has a two-year-old daughter. like an adjective

-shape- round, square, triangular, rectangular, six-sided, eight-sided

A stop sign is eight-sided.

A stop sign is octagonal.

She bought a circular/round table.

-         colour- green, white, black, blue, sky blue, dark blue, light blue

-         origin- where something is from- Persian food, Chinese tea, Vietnamese sandwich (banh mi), Japanese sushi, Korean kimchi, Colombian arepa

-material- cotton, leather, wood, steel, silk, wool, plastic, aluminum, copper, gold, iron, silver

 

**NOTE**

In English, adjectives come before nouns.

a blue sky

Spanish – a sky blue

Farsi, Arabic- a sky blue

 

4.    adverbs – modify verbs

‘ly’ quickly, slowly, happily, healthily

She tries to eat as healthily as possible.

The little boy walks quickly.

suddenly, absolutely

usually You usually get to work early.

 

goodly well  He speaks German very well. He speaks German very poorly.

I did poorly on my driving test.

fortunately, unfortunately, amazingly, surprisingly, incredibly, fantastically, seriously, definitely, sincerely, exactly

5.    Pronouns – These days, some people choose their pronouns.
