phrasing

hard work – adj noun

hardworking- adj  She is very hardworking person.

 

2.    I want to get a job so I can feed my family. ww

I want to get a job so that I can support my family. adv cl

support – financial support, emotional support

context – what kind of support

context – the way a word is used

bad(adj) – context good, terrible

I supported my friend through her divorce. – sounds like emotional

He works hard to support his three children. – sounds like financial

 

I want to get a job so I can take care of my family.

She supports herself.

I want to get a job to take care of my family.

 

I want to ABC.

I want to go for a walk.

I want to ride my bicycle.

present perfect- started in the past, continues to now

She has done yoga since December.

since – useful word for present perfect

 

She has done yoga for five months.

 

CHOICE since TIME

               for PERIOD OF TIME

Mei has played piano since she was a kid. adverb clause

Mei has played piano for 30 years.

I had lived there for about six years. past perfect- not used often by native English speakers, slightly too formal, substitute simple past

DIFFERENT MEANINGS:

I have lived there for six years.

I have a sister whose name is Jane. complex sent- adjective clause

* Don’t start a sentence with ‘but’ ‘and’ ‘so’  - too casual for school writing
