Sentence Fragments

 

A sentence fragment is a piece of a sentence. It is not a complete sentence.

 

e.g. We will go to the beach today because it is a nice day. PERFECT COMPLEX SENTENCE

We will go to the beach today because it is a nice day.

MAIN CLAUSE ADVERB CLAUSE

 

We will go to the beach. Because it is a nice day. sentence fragment

Because it is a nice day. NOT A COMPLETE SENTENCE, FRAG

Because it is a nice day. PART A SENTENCE ADVERB CLAUSE

 

SOLUTIONS:

We will go to the beach because it is a nice day. COMPLEX

We will go to the beach. It is a nice day. 2 SIMPLES

It is a nice day, so we will go to the beach. COMPOUND

 

All of our sentences have to be in these styles: SIMPLE, COMPOUND, COMPLEX.

 

In my marking notes, I will write ‘frag’ for a sentence fragment.

Join A with B to make complete sentences.

Begin with a noun, not a pronoun

It is very important to start to iron out details like punctuation, capitals, SV, verb tense, etc.

Use Reasoning

as you know -  As you know, dogs can protect people.

Use Examples

Use Emotions

Imagine if we had a cute little kitten in the house. (noun cl)

Just think how nice it would be to have a ferret running around the house.

 

Use Organization

There are several reason why we should get a cat. To begin with, they are very cute. Next, they can catch mice. Moreover, cats are great to sleep with.

from experience    From experience, I know that a dog makes a great family member.
