Good morning.

We will get started at 8:30.

1.    Paper format

2.    Ice-breaker- small group chatting

3.    Pass-in paragraph- NOT FOR MARKS

4.    Begin sentence review

 

 

Books- I will to try to provide all text resources for you. – photocopies

                                                                                                       -online

College, university – buy books, $$$

High school (secondary)- book loans, book deposit $100- AVOID

 

- you get to keep the resources

- $100 is a lot of money (refundable)

 

 

I got emails from most of the class yesterday.

Homework email- proper subject line

The emails were perfect- clear subject line  NAME, CLASS

Please remember to include name and class in your email.

PAPER FORMAT

Please use lined 8 1/2 X 11 inch paper.

You can get it at a dollar store. $1.25

NAME CLASS DATE

Put your name, class, and date in the top righthand corner above the line.

 

TITLE

Title line -Name of test, quiz

Quiz 1, Test 1, Essay 2

 

FORMAT

-Write in pen- black or blue pen.

NOTE: Black ink gets higher marks on provincial exams.

Please! No pencil.

-Double space.

-Write between the margins.

-Indent the first word of each paragraph- 1”

* “ inch e.g. 2”   ‘ foot 6’      6’2”  5’3”

 

It’s easy to forget these details when you are focussed on writing.

I will keep reminding you.

When the formatting is right, it looks better.

We’ll practice today.

 

On a word processor, do the same thing.

-Use a 14-16 point font

-Choose an attractive font- simple and clear

-Doublespace or 1.5

-Indent the first word of each paragraph, TAB key or 4-5 space bar

-Save it with a meaningful name  Name, Class, Quiz#

-Email it to me as an attachment

American spelling and Canadian spelling differ sometimes.

airplane(Can,US) aeroplane(UK)  tire(Can,US) tyre(UK)

Canadian spelling is closer to British spelling.

 

You can choose what you want- try to be consistent.

neighbor colour – inconsistent

neighbour colour- consistent

Style choice.

spellcheck – see errors, not errors

 

NOTE: Grammarcheck is highly inacurrate. I leave it off.

Some people like Grammarly. Don’t use it in class. I want to see your writing.

 

 

Write a short paragraph about yourself. 150 words

Possible topics:

4.    Job

5.    Travel

6.    Hobbies

7.    Future plans
