We are a small school, so we often have to split classes.
EF4/ EF5- These classes are not identical, but close.

You go to one of these courses:

2. Composition 10 and Literary Studies 10 (used to be called
English 10)
EF7 and Composition 10 & Literary Studies 10 is the same
class at South Hill.
IDIOM not a big deal- nothing to worry about, small problem
e..g He made a big deal out of his shoes getting dirty.
IDIOM make a mountain out of a molehill –
Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill. Don’t be so
dramatic.
English 10 is now called Composition 10 and Literary Studies

EF7/Composition 10, Literary Studies 10 – taught together,

BC Ministry of Education rules:
-English Foundations 7 (EF7) is for Graduated Adults. A
Graduated Adult is a person who has finished high school anywhere in the world.
-Composition and Literary Studies 10 (used to be called
English 10) are for people who have not finished high school anywhere in the
world.
e.g. under 19, students who turned 19 and ‘aged out’ of
regular high school in Vancouver, left high school for many reasons: family
trouble; health problems- physical, psychological- depression, anxiety, etc;
war in their country; political unrest; not a safe country; got a job to
support their family; not allowed to go or were not able to go to school when
they young

English 12 is the highest level English class for high
school in BC.
Colleges and universities require English 12, for the most
part.
You can apply for post-secondary (college, university) with
English 12.

MY ADVICE:
Start thinking about it. Start planning.
You can do it. There is a lot of opportunity.
It will be difficult and expensive, but you can do it.
A lot of adults go to post-sec either part-time or
full-time.
Our SHEC academic advisors are very knowledgeable and
helpful.

Final
percentages will be based on total number of points. Keep your quizzes and
tests in your binder so you can refer to them. You can keep track of your marks
be adding up the marks as we do quizzes and tests. I may adjust the number and
value of assessments according to the needs of the class.
FIRST DAY ICEBREAKER:
Get into groups of 4-5 people. Choose some people who you
don’t know yet. Ideally choose people who do not speak your mother language.
