“Simple Present Tense”

 

dialogue- conversation between two people

 

Reporter- journalist, works for a newspaper, does interviews

-guest- a person who comes to your home for a party or a dinner

-salary- money from a job, annual salary, per year

-wage- money per hour

The BC Minimum Wage is $16.75 per hour. On June 1, 2024 the minimum wage will increase to $17.40 per hour.

-circus- like theatre, professional entertainers, lions, elephants, clowns

-unusual – strange, odd, weird

-rather – choice

Would you like tea or coffee? I’d rather have coffee.

I’d rather work alone. I’d rather work with people.

Right now, I live in Vancouver. I’d rather live in Kelowna.

alone- by yourself, on your own

lonely- feel sad

He lives alone. He lives by himself. He lives on his own.

He feels lonely. He doesn’t feel lonely.

Some people like to live alone.

He needs his own space.

You hit the golf ball with a golf club.

They work from Monday to Friday. They work weekdays.

weekdays- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

weekends- Saturday and Sunday

Last month we had a long weekend.

angry- mad

 

Our class begins/starts at 8:30.

 

He watches it on TV at 6 o’clock.

They watch is on TV.

Brian and Zack watch a game on TV.

87. appear- seems, not sure but looks like

93. expect – think something will happen

I expect that it will get cold tomorrow.

He provides for his family. He earns money to support his family.

South Hill provides English classes.

52. hold- have something in your hand

He holds a pencil in his hand.

63. include- put everyone together, put many things together

I want this class to include everybody.

86. consider- think about, try to decide

He considers getting a new job.

She considers moving to Calgary.

She has a big suitcase/luggage.

She has good health because she exercises a lot. She runs 10 km a day.

71. minute- 60 seconds, very small

The insect is minute. It is very small.

insect – small animal with six legs, like an ant or a beetle, a bug

 

93.research – study, gather information

He wants to buy a new phone. He researches good budget phones.

budget- low cost, not expensive

 

We can do some more nouns and verbs tomorrow.
