Continue with verb tenses

Simple present- habitual

Simple past – one event finished

Simple future- one event to come “will” “am going to”

Next verb tense:

Present progressive/ present continuous  ‘ing’

 

Either way is OK - progressive  continuous

 

aux verb ‘to be’ + ‘ing’ verb

 

aux verb ‘to be’

am   is   are

 

Examples:

He is running down the sidewalk.  aux verb ‘is’   ing ‘running’

She is talking on the phone to her sister.

I am studying French at school.

You are learning English at SHEC.

 

** need two words in the verb “is going” “are walking” “am talking”

COMPARING SIMPLE PRESENT AND PRESENT PROGRESSIVE

Mei studies English. simple present- always

Mei is studying English. present progressive- active right now

Present Progressive (Present Continuous) Tense

1.    It is beautiful day. The sun is shining.

2.    He is making/cooking/preparing/fixing dinner.

3.    She is fixing/repairing/washing the car.

4.    They are listening to their teacher.

5.    She is sleeping.

6.    She is reading.

7.    She is studying for her exam.

8.    I don’t usually wear earrings, but today I am wearing some.

9.    They are wearing dresses. He is wearing a t-shirt.

10.                       They are dancing.
