Make sure you understand what the teacher is asking you to do.

Make a list
Do a mindmap

vocab and ideas to bubble up. Emerge
We have a lot of vocab sleeping in our brains.
3.
Organize these points in time, space or
importance.
(5-10m)
Writing
4.
Write the rough copy of your paragraph. Write
the actual sentences.
Start with a grabber that you feel would be
effective.
Write a topic sentence that is linked to
the question. Be clear. Be specific. Make it obvious. Use some of vocab from
the question. Use synonyms. The reader has to know what you are writing about.
If the reader is not clear what topic you are writing about, then the paragraph
will not be a successful paragraph. If a teacher doesn’t know what you are
writing about, the paragraph will not get a decent mark.
Synonyms and antonyms

Then write your 3-4 points into sentences.
Write a concluding sentence.
5.
Proofread and edit your sentences. Make sure
every sentence is simple, compound, or complex. Make sure every sentence has
subjects and verbs.
Check the things that you know you have trouble
with: verb tense, verb form, punctuation, spelling, word form, articles, prepositions.
Get it as good as you can.
6.
Submit.
These ideas will help you get top marks in a school
classroom.

Let’s
explore some ways to construct a great answer for the question “What would you
have done if you had been one of the boy’s deciding what to do about the
pheasants?”
Grabber- use one of the seven techniques
e.g.
funnel “We will never know how we will
act in a difficult situation until we are faced with one.”
Topic sentence- mirror vocab from the
question or use synonyms
What would you have done if you had
been one of the boy’s deciding what to do about the
pheasants?
TS If
I had been one of the boy’s faced with what to do with the pheasants, I
probably would have done the same as what happened in the story.
Supporting points
1-original intention to harvest the
pheasants, reality not so easy
2-animal lover, never hurt an animal
3-compassionate person, don’t like to see
suffering, sacrifice my own comfort for another’s
Turn of these notes into a sentence or two.
First of all, even though I would have
grown up on the farm and seen animals being killed, I may not done this myself.
The boys and I would have gone out with the intention of harvesting the pheasants;
however, the reality of actually doing it would have been quite different from
what we imagined. I doubt that I would have been able to go through with it.
Secondly, I have always been an animal
lover since I was a kid. I have never hurt an animal and probably would not
start with the pheasants.
Finally, I am a compassionate person who
does not like to see suffering. I would prefer to sacrifice my own comfort for
the sake of another. For that reason, I would have covered the pheasants with
my coat as the boys did.
ROUGH COPY
We will
never know how we will act in a difficult situation until we are faced with
one. If I had been one of the boy’s faced with what to do with the pheasants, I
probably would have done the same as what happened in the story. First of all,
even though I would have grown up on the farm and seen animals being killed, I may
not have ever done this myself. The boys and I would have gone out with the
intention harvesting the pheasants; however, the reality of actually doing it would
have been quite different from what we imagined. I doubt that I would have been
able to go through with it. Secondly, I have always been an animal lover since
I was a kid. I like to be around animals. I have never hurt an animal and
probably would not start with the pheasants. Finally, I am a compassionate
person who does not like to see suffering. I would prefer to sacrifice my own
comfort for the sake of another. For that reason, I think I would have covered
the pheasants with my coat as the boys did. In the end, I feel that I would
have acted the same as the boys did if I were confronted with the same
situation.
(~220 words)
Don’t stress about the fancy verbs.
The most important parts are the organization
and then decent sentences.
Test #2 Retake
Why did the boys choose to save the pheasants?
