SVV – simple

SV SV  - compound, complex

This sentence sound like it was written by a person who does not use English very much.

He didn’t feel peaceful in his mind until he started to meditate. complex


5. Since I was freedom from jail, I did not do any bad thing. wf

Sometimes, it seems people are writing sentences in English not having used much English.


6. Joan and her friends decided to hike up the mountain even if it is raining now.

even if – future

even though - present

7. People found freedom since they fought for their rights. vague

What people? What freedom? What rights?

Woman in Canada found freedom since they fought for their right to vote 100 years ago. -much better, more specific, more meaningful 

8. We take more patience even though we have waited for the bus for a long time. vocab, phrasing

We need more patience even though we have waited for the bus for a long time.

9. We need to be more patient even though we have waited for the bus for a long time.

patience – noun

patient- adj


People are writing English while looking through the lens of their first language. This is a natural and predictable problem. You have to work to overcome it.

We can have several modes of being. – two brains – Farsi brain, English brain, Japanese mind, English mind


I admire you all so much for doing this work. This is hard work. When you six years old, it is much easier. At 25 or 35 or 65, it is so much harder. We can still make good progress.


I have played (the) guitar since I was 13 years old. I feel like I have improved a lot over the last year because of daily practice and focus. I’m 53.
