Today’s agenda:
Optional replacement quiz – same deal as last time
Email me by 11am today if you want to replace one of your quiz marks. No lates. Tell me which quiz you want to replace: Quiz 1(simple sentences), 2(compound sentences), or 3(complex sentences-adverb clauses).
The replacement quiz will be Wednesday after class.
The quiz will be 2 simple, 2 compound, 2 adverb clause sentences.
1. Noun clauses
2. Literary Terms - tomorrow
3. Tomorrow (Tuesday) – Quiz on noun clauses
Thursday class- no class meeting. Email correspondence.
Registration for February quarter will begin Dec 16th January 4th. I will give midterm recommendations on Thursday. We will not have a regular class on Thursday. Email me during regular class time (8:30-10:45am) on Thursday if you want a midterm and recommendation. I will email you back your midterm mark and my recommendation whether you should register for the next level or stay at the level you are at.
My recommendation means that I think that you are ready to move up.
My cutoff for recommendations is 65%. If you are scoring less than that, you should not move up although you are marginally passing. Students who move up when they are not ready do not do well in higher level classes. I will not recommend students who are not ready.
If you pass the class with 1 low mark (e.g. 52%), you can register for the next level. However, I will not give you a recommendation for that.
You can roughly calculate what your midterm will be using the method I showed you last week. In case of discrepancy, my calculation will stand.
Add them together and divide by the denominator.
Quiz marks x/3- NOTES- Quiz marks are x/6, but are worth x/3.
e.g. 4/6 =2/3
Test marks x/6
Bonus pt x/1
