For next quarter, Quarter 3, which is February 8- April 23, I will be teaching the following courses:

P1 (8:30-10:45) English Foundations 5

P2 (11:00-1:15) English Foundations 3/4

My English Foundations 5 course will be mostly very similar to this course.

The February to April schedule is online now:

https://www.vsb.bc.ca/Student_Learning/Adult_Education/Documents/Feb%202021%20Final.pdf

Registration for February term begins January 4th.

I will give midterm reports next week.

In my opinion, registering based on midterm reports is a bad idea. However, I am not the boss.

E.g midterm 40% - not a pass, no recommendation

midterm 50% - pass, but very low, no recommendation

midterm 65% - pass, pretty good, minimum, recommendation

midterm 80% - pass, really good, recommendation

None of us can predict the future. We can only look at the marks we have.

The midterm mark is a snapshot. By the end of the course, your mark can go up or down. The final mark is what determines whether you move on or not.

e.g. Midterm -50% End of the course- 70% PASS

Midterm – 70% End of the course- 40% NOT A PASS

soccer – Halftime score 2/0, Final score 2/6.

Having to register early based on a midterm mark is frustrating and not the best system; however, it is the system that the school uses.

So far, we have done two quizzes and two tests. Also, there was one bonus point from the first day.

Quizzes X/6 worth 3 points

Tests X/6 worth 6 points

e.g. Bonus pt 1/1

Quiz#1 4/6 = 2/3

Quiz#2 2/6 = 1/3

Test#1 3.5/6

Test#2 4/6

11.5/19

numerator divided by denominator

1+2+1+3.5+4= 11.5 divided by 19 (1+3+3+6+6)= 62.6%

Midterm mark

I will talk to each of you next week about your midterm marks.
