Today, we will focus on essay writing
Tomorrow, you will write an essay to send to me. Class time.

Progression of the class:
- sentence writing  - details for different types of sentences. fundamental, foundation
SIMPLE, COMPOUND, COMPLEX - the basis of all your writing

- paragraph writing - few different types of paragraphs, modes of writing: descriptive, narrative, definition, persuasive, process- teach, compare and contrast

- essays - longest piece of writing that you will do in-class in a school

- papers (10-20 page papers)

- articles, books



essay- (French) - "to try" to accomplish a goal, endeavor - to describe, to narrate, to teach, to convince, to compare/contrast

Five-paragraph essay - most basic useful kind

For English 12, an essay should be about 300 words.
"Using standard English, write ... a coherent, unified, multi-paragraph (3 or more paragraphs) composition of at least 300 words..."
