Hi everyone. This is English Foundations 3&4 and English Foundations 3&4 Writing
We will get started at 11:00am.
Al

Good morning. Can you hear me?
If you can’t hear me, say so in the chat

I will mute everyone’s microphone to cut down on extra noise. If you would like to speak, unmute your microphone.

My name is Al Haley. I have been teaching at South Hill Education Centre.

All of our classes will be online.
We will learn a lot in this class.
We will make the best of this strange situation.

Every morning Monday to Friday at 11am, we will meet on Zoom. I will post a link to our Zoom meeting at 10:45am.
I will lecture and teach for about one hour. Then I will give you some homework to do. We will meet the next day to continue with our work.

Required Text(s) and workbook(s):        everything will be online via email and via our BLOG

Course Description:
In this course, you’ll learn to write a wide variety of English sentences – simple sentences, compound sentences, complex sentences.
Then you will begin to write short paragraphs- (5-8 sentences together)- descriptive paragraphs, narrative paragraphs, process (teach or explain) paragraphs, persuasive (convince) paragraphs.

You will increase your reading comprehension – short stories
Adding to your vocabulary, learning lots and lots of new words – very important.

You’ll also improve your speaking (?) and listening skills.
It will be tricky to practice speaking skills online. Maybe there is a way. Do you have any ideas for how to practice speaking in this online class?

Learning Outcomes:
It is expected that students will be able to:
      ask and respond to questions
with prompting, speak in comprehensible English
      follow spoken instructions
Am I speaking clearly enough? Am I speaking slowly enough?
Listening is hard, like on the telephone. It is much more difficult than face to face.

read short stories and articles, summarize events, describe main topics and details
identify subjects and verbs in a variety of sentences
write sentences in a variety of styles- simple, compound, complex
use the most common verb tenses in English
create five to eight-sentence paragraphs around a topic using a prewriting process

*** There is nothing to worry about. We are here to learn. I am here to teach and help. ***
