Eng 7/ 10/ 11 Verbs followed by gerunds or infinitives

Verbs Followed by Either Infinitives or Gerunds
These verbs can be followed by either an infinitive or a gerund with no difference in meaning:
begin, start, continue, like, love, prefer, hate, can’t stand
For example:
It began to rain.
It began raining.

Shelley loves to ski.
Shelley loves skiing.

Try these:
1. I like (go) going/ to go __________ to the zoo.
2. The audience started (leave) leaving/ to leave __________ after the first act.
3. After a brief interruption, the teacher continued (teach) to teach / teaching__________ the class.
4. The children love (swim) swimming / to swim __________ in the ocean.
5. I hate (see) seeing / to see__________ any living creature in pain.
