Phrasal Verbs

Phrasal verbs are two or three-word verbs usually consisting of a verb plus a preposition or two. 

e.g. talk

talk(v) + to(prep) = converse, address

Changing the preposition will change the meaning.

 

e.g. talk to    She talked to her son about his homework.

talk with        My friend talked with me.

talk about     discuss a subject, gossip about a person(negative)

IDIOM Gossip is juicy.

IDIOM spill the tea             She spilled the tea about Sarah.

 

talk over- discuss a plan together, have a meeting   Let’s talk over your idea.

The whole family talked their vacation plans.

 

talk over- talk louder than somebody else, interrupt(rude)

 

talk for-

I talked for my four-year-old son when we went to the hospital.

speak for-
