** Review of simple past tense

SIMPLE PAST VERB TENSE-

wear – simple present- everyday, habitual

She always wears jeans to school.

 

wore- simple past- one event in the past, finished

She wore dress pants to school yesterday.

 

YOUR EXAMPLES:

PHRASAL VERB verb + preposition  found + out = found out

Simple verb tenses

 

simple present- habitual action, truth

simple past- one event in the past, finished

 

Final simple verb tense:

 

simple future- one event in the future

-         five minutes in the future, ten years in the future

-         “will”

-         “be going to”

What’s the difference between ‘will’ and ‘be going to’?

If what you leanred in your grammar class makes sense to you, then stick with that.

 

The way I teach it-Easiest way to see the difference.

be going to – already planned

will- decide right now

 

Examples:

I am going to study tonight. already have a plan, already planned it, in your schedule

I am going to cook dinner at 7pm for my family. already in your plan for the day

I am going to walk/go to the coffee shop kiosk outside our classroom to buy a coffee.

She is going to work out tonight.

You are going to save money over the next few months.

Sarah is going to appear on a TV program.

I’m going to be on TV!

 

will- decide right now

I’ll help you!

I will do it.

I will mop the floor.

I will call my mom.

 

If you get them confused, everybody will still know what you mean.
