Descriptive writing – describe something

WORD FORMS- wf

describe(verb)

description(noun)- give a description

descriptive(adjective)

 

descriptive paragraph – describing something or someone

 

-picture, photograph, person, scenery/landscape, animal, tree, car, food, etc.

 

-         azure blue, turqoise, deep blue, wispy clouds, thin clouds, grey rocks, palm or coconut trees

-         white waves, whitecaps

 

appeal to the five senses- means of connection between our brains and the world

five senses –

1.sense of sight – seeing with our eyes

2.sense of touch – nerves in our skin – pressure and heat

3.sense of taste – tongue (organ of taste) taste buds on your tongue– sweetness, sourness, saltiness, bitterness, NEW IDEA umami (Japanese- meaty taste), spicy?

4.sense of smell- olfactory(adj) smell- nose- very evocative (easy to remember) of memory, go back in time- perfume, food

5.sense of hearing – ears, eardrums, three tiny bones (hammer, anvil, stirrup)

tinnitus(n)- ringing in your ears, hearing damage, exposure to loud noises

 

the 6th sense – ESP (extra-sensory perception)- communicate through your minds- connection between twins (magic)

-         gut reaction, Listen to your gut.

 

- physical disabilities with our senses, barrier:

*can’t see – blind, partially blind, visually impaired- seeing-eye dog,

read braille

colour blind- can’t distinguish between green and red, for example

Dogs can only see black and white. True?

Cats can only grey and green. ??

tunnel vision- limited peripheral vision

 

*can’t hear- deaf, partially deaf, hearing impaired – hearing aid,

read lips, sign language

*can’t talk – dumb, mute (old-fashioned word, not used anymore), non-verbal

Sarah’s son is non-verbal. He is autistic. He is on the autism spectrum.
