face(v) – deal with a problem, figure it out

I have to face GERUND.
GERUND- noun with ‘ing’
I have to face learning English.
I have to face making enough money.
I have to face paying rent.
I have to deal with paying rent.
He has to deal with arranging doctor’s appointments
for her kids.
solving- fix a problem
Maris solved the problem with her computer.
I have to face NOUN.
Sharon has to face the gloomy weather in Vancouver.
VOCAB gloomy(adjective)- depressing, sad, negative
The weather is gloomy.
Her sister is a gloomy person.
cloudy – just for weather
She has a sunny personality. happy, joyful, positive
It is a sunny day.
He is very moody. He is up and down.
He has trouble regulating his emotions.

Split class- two or more classes put together
We are a small school, so we often have to split classes.
EF2/ EF3- These classes are not identical, but close.
EF - English Foundations-

There is not EF 8 or 9
EF7 – the next level is English 11
TWO PATHS: EF7
OR Composition 10 & Literary
Studies 10 (used to be called English 10)
You go to one of these courses:

Foundations 7
OR
2. Composition 10 and Literary Studies 10 (used to be called
English 10)
EF7 and Composition 10 & Literary Studies 10 is the same
class at South Hill.
You do not choose.
IDIOM not a big deal- nothing to worry about, small problem
e..g He made a big deal out of his shoes getting dirty.
IDIOM make a mountain out of a molehill –
Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill. Don’t be so
dramatic.
English 10 is now called Composition 10 and Literary Studies
10

EF7/Composition 10, Literary Studies 10 – taught together,

BC Ministry of Education rules:
-English Foundations 7 (EF7) is for Graduated Adults. A
Graduated Adult is a person who has finished high school anywhere in the world.
-Composition and Literary Studies 10 (used to be called
English 10) are for people who have not finished high school anywhere in the
world.
e.g. under 19, students who turned 19 and ‘aged out’ of
regular high school in Vancouver, left high school for many reasons: family
trouble; health problems- physical, psychological- depression, anxiety, etc;
war in their country; political unrest; not a safe country; got a job to
support their family; not allowed to go or were not able to finish school when
they under 19
