** Optional replacement quiz **

A few people have asked me about rewriting quizzes. Maybe they had a bad quiz or missed a quiz.

In my classes, I offer an optional replacement quiz for anyone who would like to do one.

Next week, you will have an opportunity to replace one of the quizzes that you wrote.

Again, this is optional. You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to.

So far we have done five quizzes:

Quiz#1 para about yourself                   X/6

Quiz#2 simple sentences            X/6

Quiz#3 compound sent, SOBA  X/6

Quiz#4 compound sent ;              X/6

Quiz#5 complex sent- adv cl      X/6

Quiz#6 complex sent- n cl           X/6

TOMORROW Quiz#7 complex sent- adj cl  X/6

You have your marks for those.

You may have one quiz that you were not satisfied with.

One is one. Not two, not three. 1=1

You choose which one you want to replace and let me know by email.

You will do the replacement quiz during regular class time, as usual. It will be Thursday, April 18th. We will do it the last 25 minutes of class.

The replacement quiz will be a new quiz. The replacement quiz will be a mix of all sentence styles.

e.g. If you want to replace your Quiz #5, the adverb clause quiz, the replacement quiz will not just be on adverb clauses; it will be on all of the sentence styles. The replacement quiz will be six sentences, as usual- mix of simple, compound, complex. e.g. 1 simple, 2 compound, 3 complex OR 2 simple, 2 compound,  2 complex.

Your old mark will be replaced with the new mark. It will not be the higher of the two marks.

Think carefully about if you would like to replace one of your quiz marks.

ADVICE:

If you have pretty good marks, just leave them. Don’t bother with the replacement quiz.

On the other hand, if you have a really low mark somewhere, it would be worth doing the replacement quiz.

REMINDER: Quizzes are worth about 30% of your final mark.

ACTION:

What you can do:

Email me by next Monday at 7PM which quiz you would like to replace, if you want to replace one.

Send me an email.

Make sure you use a proper Subject line in your email:

“Name, Class, Replacement quiz.”

“Hi Al,

I want to replace Quiz#2.

Thanks,

Betty”

I will respond.

“Ok. Thanks.

Al”

I will not accept late emails. Monday at 7pm is the deadline to let me know if you want to replace a quiz.

** Optional replacement test **

A few people have asked me about rewriting tests. Maybe they had a bad test or a missed test.

In my classes, I offer an optional replacement test for anyone who would like to do that.

On Thursday, April 18th, you will have an opportunity to replace one of the tests that you wrote. This is optional. You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to.

As of today, we have done four tests:

Test#1        x/6    x/12 doubled e.g. 4/6=8/12

Test#2                  x/12

Test#3                  x/12

Test#4                  x/12

*I double the test marks because tests are worth twice as much as quizzes. You have the marks for those.

You may have one test that you were not satisfied with. Perhaps you got a low mark. Perhaps you missed a test and did not make it up.

You can replace one of those tests. You choose which one.

One is one. Not two, not three. 1=1

You will do the replacement test during regular class time, as usual. It will be on Thursday, April 18th. We will do it the last hour of class.

The replacement test will be a new test, a new topic.

Your old mark will be replaced with the new mark. It will not be the higher of the two marks.

Think about if you would like to replace one of your test marks.

If you have pretty good marks, just leave them. Don’t bother with the replacement test.

Email me by this Monday at 7PM which test you would like to replace, if you would like to replace one.

Send me an email.
