You do not have to make notes as we go; neverthless, making notes during class is an excellent way to improve retention.

 

 VOCAB retention(noun) – retain, remember (verb)

 Making notes in a class helps you to retain information.

 

NEW WORD blog – weblog- keep a written record on the internet, online diary, publish your thoughts-

Some people are bloggers.

log- written record

-nurse in a hospital, truck driver- keep a log, record events as they occur

 

I will update my blog every day after class. You can check it and review what we did in class.

Reviewing material is the best way to help remember new information.

 

You can check the blog as much as you like. There is no sign-in, no password. It’s all public and accessible.

 

You can use it this quarter. You can keep using it until the end of time.

I am planning to keep my blog up forever.

Our blog is a tremendous resource that you can use.

My blog is searchable. You can search for something specific that you are looking for.

The little boy finds it hard to stay on track with his homework.

 Shelley finds it challenging to stay on track with her gym routine.

 

**Emails***

I sent an email to you yesterday. If you received that email from me, than that means we can communicate via/by email. If you did not receive an email from me, that means I do not have your email in the computer system. We will have to fix that.

 

VOCAB via- by She gets to school via the bus.

He goes to work via car.

 

via – the way that you go, your route, through

Hossein came to Canada from Iran via Ukraine.

Maria flew to Halifax via Toronto.

 

 

You can fly directly to Tokyo from Vancouver.

You fly to Ethiopia via Toronto.

She flew to Vancouver from Tehran via Montreal and Istanbul.

 

She became a college instructor via nursing.

My wife became a college instructor via being a CDA.

CDA- certified dental assistant

 

 

VERBS – fly- simple present   The bird flies around the trees.

flew- simple past   The bird flew into her house.

will fly – simple future The birds will fly south in winter.

VOCAB

IDIOM seamless(adjective)- smooth, no problems , confusion

seam – where two pieces of cloth are sewed, joined, rough area, bumpy

seamless- not rough, smooth, easy

 

Registering for this class was seamless. adjective

Taking the Skytrain using a credit card is seamless.

Raising teenagers is rarely seamless.

 

Immigrating to Canada is not a seamless process.

Ordering a hamburger at McD’s is seamless.

***Covid protocols***

VOCAB protocol- accepted ways to act, best ways to do things

 

Wash your hands many times a day.

Use moisturizer/hand lotion.

Use sanitizer.

In class:

Two bottles of sanitizer at the front

Feel free to wear a mask if you want.

When we wear a mask, we lose the facial expressions. We lose the lip reading.

Talking on the phone is challenging.

VOCAB challenging- difficult

EUPHEMISM – a word that we use instead of the less polite word

challenging- difficult, hard

We will have summer school. You can register is you want.

Summer school is five weeks- July and the first week of August.

 

School will begin again in September right after Labour Day.
